Moab Version Updates
Moab 5.3.7
Moab 5.3.7 is a maintenance release of Moab Workload Manager 5.3 and includes a number of feature enhancements, bug fixes, and other improvements. This release is expected to be the final maintenance release of the 5.3 series.
Some highlights for this release include dynamic fairshare tree reloading, improvements in resource manager interaction, improved client commands, and reduced memory usage for IAAS and VPC models.
New Features
The following are some of the new features added in the Moab 5.3.7 release:
- Fairshare Tree Reloading. Moab 5.3 now has the ability for the fairshare tree to be dynamically reloaded.
- Resource Manager Interaction Improvements. This release includes updates to improve the interfaces used by Moab to work with third-party resource managers. Improvements include changes for TORQUE, SLURM, Condor, and LSF emulation. Improvements have also been made for XT-4 and BlueGene support.
- Client Commands. Improvements have been made to showstats -v, checkjob -v -v, mjobctl -j, mdiag t, mdiag -n, moab -e, and msub -N to improve reporting and behavior. Please see the CHANGES file and the online documentation for additional details.
- Memory Usage. This version of Moab has improved memory utilization for sites using the IAAS models, especially those utilizing VPCs. This is a marked improvement that should allow sites to scale up 10x the number of VPC instances on the same hardware.
Moab 5.4.1 and 5.4.2
Two new versions of Moab 5.4 were released last month. Moab 5.4.1 was released August 2; Moab 5.4.2 was released August 31.
Moab 5.4.1 and Moab 5.4.2 are maintenance releases of Moab Workload Manager 5.4 and include a number of improvements and fixes. Highlights in these releases include the new Native Allocation Manager Interface (NAMI), updates to generic resources, enhancements to information available to triggers, and resource-manager improvements in root workload interaction.
What's New
The following are some of the new features and changes in these releases. Please see the CHANGES file and online documentation for additional details.
- Native Allocation Manager Interface (NAMI). Moab 5.4.1 introduces a new, improved interface for working with allocation managers, such as Gold. Like a native compute-resource manager, this new interface is based on event-driven URLs, by which Moab will call out to the allocation manager to provide information of events that occur.
- Trigger Enhancements. Triggers can now use the $OBJECTXML variable in their action line. This variable will be replaced with the XML representation of the object to which the trigger is attached. This is especially beneficial to EXEC triggers that will be able to pass a large amount of information to trigger scripts using this model.
- Effective Queue Duration Reporting. The effective queue duration is the default duration used by Moab when calculating priority. This value can now be reported in the event files.
Moab Viewpoint 1.2
Moab Viewpoint 1.2 provides many new features and enhancements to improve the usability, flexibility, and security of the product.
New Features and Improvements
- New installer to ease the process of setting up Viewpoint.
- New Viewpoint user-management page to configure users and roles directly in Viewpoint.
- New streaming job output page for viewing job output while a job is running.
- Improved customizability and scalability of the node and VPC management pages.
- New statistics charting and report generation with several preconfigured reports.
- Improved security through encrypted user authentication and enforced user passwords.
- Job forms that can be saved and loaded.
- Support for VM or bare-metal hybrid VPC systems.
